On October 20, 2023, the inaugural meeting of the Community of Practices in Romania (COP – Romania) took place within the framework of the SafeHabitus project- a project on which Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu partakes as a partner. The meeting was held at the Astra Museum Sibiu, a symbolic venue known as “the largest open-air museum in Europe where nature and culture harmoniously blend to recreate an authentic Romanian village”.
Focused on sheep farming in central Romania the event brought together sheep farmers from the region, sheep breeders’ associations, representatives of local authorities from areas with numerous sheep farmers, representatives of Sibiu County’s public authorities, university and high-school professors, researchers, as well as other relevant stakeholders.
The Romanian team presented the main objectives and activities undertaken within the SafeHabitus project, with special attention paid to the crucial role played by the COP within the project. The meeting provided a good platform for an open discussion on key issues of the SafeHabitus project, specifically occupational health and safety in the agricultural sector. This included the main challenges for farmers, particularly in sheep farming. The CoP meeting served as a nice opportunity to share experiences related to farm work. Outcomes of the meeting included: a call for additional research to be carried out and the drafting of guidelines – both of which would be featured in upcoming workshops.
